I would recommend getting a comprehensive breakdown policy if you decide to take the the159 has much more grip, much less likely to understeer despite the weight and feels more sure-footed in the corners. the build quality is much better on the 159 - no squeaks or rattles, no loose bits of trim. the quality of interior materials is also in a different league to the 156. Igot a suggestion buying this car: only buy this, if you are willing to maintain it. Nevertheless this car is a car that you won't regret owning for the rest of your life. 2.4 and 1.9 JTDm Yesa mapped 2.0 JTDm would be a fairer comparison - agree with you there. But the 2.0 JTDm already uses a good bit more boost than a standard 2.4 10v does so the tuning potential is not so high. But anyway, it seems Fiat are going the wrong way with Alfa, and have been for years.

The current JTD waterpump failure thread in the 147/156/GT lounge is showing an approximate mean average failure point of 57,000 miles and 4.2 years.
